Meet the Pets - Baker

Throughout the history of this blog, I have introduced around 4 of my many previous pets (I think) and when I left in 2018 I was Mama to one. Now, only 2 years later, in 2020, I am Mama to 10!! I plan to use this mini-series of posts to introduce our blended brood to you and how could I do anything except but start with an update of our beautiful Baker boy.

Baker has been by my side since he was a mere 6 weeks old, this August past he turned 7! Many of my old readers will be familiar with this guy because not only is he my best friend and partner in crime, he also featured heavily on this blog over the years. We take fewer adventures these days but I take no fewer photos.

Just like anyone who grows up, my boy has changed a lot from Puppy to Old Man. Everything from his tastes in food, to his tolerance of people and his energy level to his favourite things to play. He's definitely no less intelligent - that is for sure! His understanding is on another level and he still performs a whole host of tricks. Originally Baker loved going for walks too, playing with other dogs and exploring but now after being attacked on no fewer than 5 times he has lost his patience with other dogs and rubbish owners, his adventurous spirit replaced with anxiety.

You'd never know though! When it comes to people he is familiar with he loves them a lot! Whether it's talking on the phone or webcam or visiting/having them visit, this boy adores his Granny and Granda! His best friend changes daily...from his Mammy to his Daddy, just like his favourite toy changes every couple weeks or so. Unless there is a new toy in town because this boy is materialistic when it comes to new toys and presents!

A little bio and some quick facts about Baker

Gender: Very feminine male

Age: 7 years 8 months

Everyone Being Separate

In May 2018, when I ended this blog, Baker and I had a big life change and we moved back in with my parents. It was expected to be for a long while - indefinitely. We didn't expect to have Mr H come into our lives, though...!
In February 2019 Mr H and I moved into a flat in Gateshead together with his 6 animals. That meant a difficult decision for me because I had to leave him behind with his Granny and Granda. We went up often to visit and had wonderful explorations.
Thankfully, in June 2019 we moved into our 3 bedroom, 2 garden little home meaning Baker could finally join the family and have his own bedroom as usual. He now has 9 siblings, 2 of which he has never met, 5 who he doesn't care about at all and 2 (the Piggies) who he is obsessed with!

Since moving to our current home, Baker has had 10 months of life filled with love and fun despite being unable to go for walks. As I mentioned earlier after the 5th time he was attacked he fully gave up on other dogs meaning walks were not only stressful, anxiety-inducing and unfun for me but for him too. He has been to visit Beamish, a favourite with all of us, a couple of times as any dogs there must be on a lead so we feel safe. He has rode the steam engines, visited the animals and had his picnic dinner there and we can't wait to go back again once it re-opens!

Don't think he misses out on fun and exercise though. His absolute favourite thing is bouncing about the living room with a balloon. He also enjoys playing piggy in the middle with his Daddy and I and running circles in the front garden when he gets to go out there. Other than that he can be found sunbathing on the decking in the back garden, rolling about with his tiny dinosaurs or taking his daily siesta in his bedroom.

Baker may be getting old but he has an amazing life. Hopefully for a lot longer.

Pages Per Day // March

Month 3 and we are doing pretty darn well at this if I do say so myself! Keeping track of pages really is motivation to read more without feeling as if you are forcing yourself.
My TBR for March totaled 928 pages over 3 books, where Mr H's total was 1,036 over 3 books. Check out below to see how we did and make sure to also have a look at our 'What We Read this Quarter' posts where we talk about books from our TBR we completed, DNFed or ones that we're last minute reads.
What Mrs Hallow Read This Quarter [January - March]
What Mr Hallow Read This Quarter [January - March]

Days 1 - 7 =  186
Days 8 - 14 = 146
Days 15 - 21 = 345
Days 22 - 28 = 425
Days 29 - 31  = 208

Monthly total = 1310

As you can see from my overall monthly page total I exceeded my TBR page total by 382. I read all 3 of my TBR pile, one other physical book and listened to two audio books (of which I am not counting in page totals...obviously).
With Mr H being home more these days with the current situation going on in the world, we have a good routine of reading every morning and every evening at least. Sometimes even more during the day especially if it's nice weather and we are out in the garden. I do read alone most mornings but it really helps me to read more when he is here, otherwise I end up just wandering off and doing bits around the house or get distracted by the animals.
My main goal for April's reading is to really try my hardest and stay over 10 pages minimum per day. It's not like I don't have the time...

Days 1 - 7 =  158
Days 8 - 14 = 169
Days 15 - 21 = 395
Days 22 - 28 = 230
Days 29 - 31  = 368

Monthly total = 1320

I think this is the first month I've ever read more than my TBR, i'm usually just scraping through getting my TBR read. As Mrs H mentioned above with the current situation with Covid-19 i'm currently at home and not working which is strange for me but defiantly welcomed. Not to mention the amount of extra reading i'm getting done!! check out that page total for me that is alot of pages! I cant wait to see how many I get through next month.

Return to Wonderland

I don't even know how to start this. It has been over 8 years since this blog began and almost 2 years exactly since I gave it up. Like most people who have been blogging as long as I (12 years in total over previous sites), you never imagine the day you will be done; always thinking you will do it forever. This was never a career path for me, as it seems to be for so many, but a genuine hobby, outlet, therapy and way to connect. My very first blogs were started to share my life with family and friends and that they have primarily remained, however, when you do share so much sometimes that can backfire.

In 2011 I deleted my first main blog when my life went through a big change.
In 2012 I opened Blogger again and created what was at that time called 'Once Upon A Time They Lived Happily Ever After'.
In 2018 I deleted the aforementioned (then known as Underland to Wonderland) when my life went through another big change.
And now in 2020 rather than let so many years worth of work go to waste, I have resurrected that blog, in the aim of continuing sharing my life journey from 'Underland' to 'Wonderland'.

Sadly, out of pure determination that I would never blog again, I didn't just revert all my posts to drafts and set the blog to private, but I deleted the Google+ account that was linked to it which in turn wiped every single image ever uploaded here; if you were a reader, you know that was many hundred - if not many thousand - photos.
That being said it wasn't as easy as to just re-publish posts and turn the permission back to 'public'.
As I write this I have re-posted 90 posts, deleted many others and still have over 800 to go through. Not all of those will survive but this time I didn't want to begin with a blank slate, I wanted to remember some of the good memories I have documented over the years.

For this post, I feel a little update is in order! A lot has happened in the past two years indeed!!

I moved house another 3 times.
I met my best friend and married him on Halloween 2019.
We chose a new name together and officially changed it.
I gained 6 pets from our union and we rescued another 3 together.
We both became fully vegan.
I changed jobs and then had to leave it, so now have none.
We started a 3rd blog, Pages of the Hallows.
I started again and completed another year of daily photos.
We've had many adventures together.
We booked our Honeymoon for October 2020.
and we have faced many hard times over a short space of time too.

It feels like so much longer than only two years, but then again it feels like it has been no time at all. 10 pets, a husband, a new home gained is insane compared to where I was when we left off...but I guess we have plenty time to catch up. There will be lots more to come about all of them and the next new post uploaded will be all about our upcoming Honeymoon, well, you know, if it actually gets to go ahead.

If you are a returning friend from years past - thank you for stopping by. I hope you are all doing well.
If you are new here - My name is Danielle and I'm glad you stopped by.
Thanks from reading See ya real soon!

What Mr Hallow Read This Quarter [January - March]

So it's that time again, quarterly review!! I'm quite happy with the progress I've made so far this year, although for a time around February I hardly did any reading at all... which wasn't great. At the time of writing this, I find myself reading a lot daily because I have more time to with not being at work as much and I still want to read even more than I am.

January

Alice in Wonderland: Based on the Motion Picture by Tui T Sutherland
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I really enjoyed these movies of Alice and the book did not disappoint although I have not actually read the original story I loved this adaption of it, It kept me wanting to read and I enjoyed everything about it from the way it is written to the way the book looks.

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader by C.S Lewis
⭐️⭐️⭐️
I am currently working my way through the Narnia series, one of Mrs H's all time favorites an dim loving them. This book for me was a little more slow paced and was used to introduce some more characters to the story hence the three stars. With that being said i still really enjoyed reading this book but come on it has a dragon in it.

Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I loved this book and already want to read it or something very similar again, you can just imagine yourself sat in a tavern listening to a bard tell these Tales of Odin and the other gods. I am a huge fan of all things Norse and I actually learned some things I didn't know in this book so it had to be 5 stars!

February

Lord of Chaos (Wheel of Time Book 6) by Robert Jordan
DNF
Now I'm not sure that I should even put this book in this post? So the thing is I love the Wheel of Time and have put off continuing reading it for too long but the start of this year hasn't exactly gone to plan for Mrs H and I and its safe to say we have been preoccupied with other things. I got about 190 pages into this book and it took nearly 3 weeks so I put it down and decided to continue with my February TBR until I have more free time for reading.

Artemis Fowl, The Eternity Code by Eoin Colfer
⭐️⭐️⭐️
After reading the Arctic Incident I have to say I was expecting more from this book although I did enjoy reading it seemed a little bit forced and I wish we could have spent more time underground with the people.

March

Grim Grinning Ghosts (Tales from the Haunted Mansion) by Amicus Arcane
⭐️⭐️⭐️
Finally got round to reading the third installment of the tales from the haunted mansion! These books a great short reads and it did not disappoint. My favorite thing about these books in the narration by the spooky librarian.

Alice Through the Looking Glass : Based on Motion Picture by Kari Sutherland
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Well what more can I say... as you have read above review (Alice in Wonderland) I think the same of this book! Fantastic read and again I enjoyed this even more with already having seen the movie. The thing I find strange is that this book was written by a different author than its prequel but that didn't change the way I felt about this read.

Shieldwall by Justin Hill
⭐️⭐️⭐️
Now what can I say, this is a great debut book and the first in a trilogy!! I cant wait to read more. The book was very slow to start but by the end of this book soooo much had happened!! And even though I would generally prefer to read this kind of story from the point of view of the vikings it kept me completely hooked.

The Firework Makers Daughter by Phillip Pullman
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I finished this short story in just one day!! well not even a day just in a few hours. I loved this read from how it was written to the characters and the story. I cant wait to read some more of Phillips short stories!!!

There we have it... my reads this quarter have you read any of these books? I'm excited to see what April-June bring in the next post what with Covid-19 keeping us all isolated maybe I will get a lot more books read for the next updates.

April TBR

TBR timmmee! We have so many books that we are dying to get around to, like most book lovers I suppose, but we are still being sensible with our reading goals and keeping our to be read lists to manageable sizes. If only we could speed our eyes and brains up to read at double speed then get through more of the amazing stories that are laying dormant on our shelves.
