On the 1st of November, we took Baker away for five nights to hopefully escape the worst of the fireworks. However, at the time of booking, we didn't know that he would be mostly deaf by this time.
Still, I also really struggle with fireworks, so it was wonderful to not only escape the stresses of home for a short while but also experience what life could be like when we finally manage to buy our own cottage in the country.
We chose to stay somewhere not too far from home, near my hometown, and also close to where we are looking to move. That is to say, the best county in the whole of England - Northumberland. We were in an area with completely dark skies, and it was cloudy every night until our last, so that dark was dark dark!
It was a great time to just relax, especially for Mr H who even on normal days off from work never really gets a true rest. We did pop into Berwick for his eye test and had a flying visit to Holy Island on day 4, but other than that our time was spent reading, doing a jigsaw and playing in the garden with Baker. I didn't take too many photos, and many are actually quick snaps from my phone, but here is a peek at our time away.

On day 1 we arrived at around 5pm when it was already dark and we spent the time getting ourselves situated for the week, so the photos begin abruptly with a phone photo taken from the bedroom window on the morning of day 2. This day we went into Berwick and then had a quiet evening watching Frozen 2 and being cosy in front of the fire. Once hitting around 8 miles away from where we stayed phone signal is lost completely, and we would have been happy to be completely unplugged for our time away, however there was access to WiFi which allowed us to watch a couple of movies and keep in touch with my parents who were caring for the other pets.
Day 3 was a super lazy day. We spent time in the garden, put together our Halloween Lego that we hadn't gotten time for until now, did reading sprints together, I worked on a jigsaw that was in a cupboard at the cottage and used our Lush goodies before enjoying tea and some of our 'The Vegan Bakes' Halloween goodies.
The next morning we headed over to Holy Island for some bird spotting. It ended up being busier with tourists than expected and some can be so entitled and rude. I think people forget that tourist towns and places are actually home to some people, it doesn't just exist for your entertainment. Anyway, we had the shortest visit ever, popped into 793 Spirits to pick out our anniversary Rum and headed back to the cottage for another night of games and reading.
I know I said I hadn't taken many photos, believe me, for me I didn't take many. But that being said, I am splitting them into two posts... See you soon!
