Return to Beamish

One of the only times I left the house after February in 2020 was to visit Beamish. They closed their doors on March 20th and re-opened July 23rd so to show our continued support for them we bought our Friends of Beamish passes without knowing if I'd have the confidence to visit. We actually ended up going once in 2020 on August 1st and you can check out the post of our photos from that trip here > Beamish Open Air Museum - Our First Visit Since Re-Opening!
As our ticket is nearing its run out date, we wanted to try a squeeze in a visit before that and the schools breaking up. Thankfully, since changing jobs, Mr H now also has a Wednesday off! Hurray!! And so we booked our timeslot for the morning of June 23rd.

Surprisingly it was busier than expected, just like last year's visit, even though it was midweek. Nevermind! We still had our masks on (minus taking family portraits for the month) and stuck to quieter areas where fewer people tend to gravitate towards. Because last year we hit our fave of 1820s Pockerley and Pit Village, this year we took a left upon entering and headed for the 1940s Farm where we had our little picnic and then walked the loop around past the transport sheds, through the Rowley Railway yard and very quickly scooted down the town street to get away from all the people!

Overall it was a lovely time, especially with Baker. He loves going to Beamish as he gets to safely enjoy a walk without the anxiety from other dogs and people as all dogs must be on leads! (FYI he has his lead on in every photo but I photoshop it out so it looks better haha). Baker is actually a Collie cross but has always been afraid of sheep, on this day however he stood nicely at the fence just looking at them all while I took photos and really didn't seem to care. Up at the farm where there was a horse in the field, he had a wonderful interaction where it walked over to the gate and bent its nose towards him and he reached up toward it in a sort of air kiss. It was a magical moment!
We did have one annoying interaction where a guy walked right over to us with his dog disregarding not only social distancing but Baker's bright yellow lead that says 'NERVOUS' on it. There's always one! haha

As I type this we have also booked one last visit for July 7th to get the last of our Beamish fix, until probably October, which I'll no doubt take lots more photos on to share here!

Until next time...
