On the Brink of Seasons at Holywell Dene

These photos were taken on a flying visit to Holywell Dene on March 17th, 3 days before the official start of Spring. I wish we'd been able to stay longer because the atmosphere was perfect! It wasn't too hot nor too cold, it was quiet with us only passing one other person and the birdlife was abundant! The chorus of our visit contained songs and sounds from at least 16 different species...including a Great Spotted Woodpecker drumming on the metal of a telegraph pole!

The signs of Spring are obvious, however, Winter hasn't left us yet either. It's funny that there is just a day where we say, 'Okay, it's the next season now' because really there is a huge amount of overlap. We sit on the brink for a while, and there is a merging process while one season blends into the next.
By looking at these photos could you pinpoint which season they were taken in?

Anyway, this was a goodbye to Winter - our last little adventure before the calendar tells us it is now Spring. Happy Ostara!

Dawn Chorus Day at Holywell Dene

International Dawn Chorus Day fell on May 1st this year, the first Sunday of May.
It is a day celebrated with the Wildlife Trusts to listen to and appreciate the Dawn Chorus!

Mr H works a lot and we get up early every day, so days off are for relaxing a little. That being said, we did not get up and go out at 4am to listen to the official dawn chorus...but we did get up and drive over to Holywell Dene for 7am haha. Of course, there were still plenty of birds singing away and providing the soundtrack to our nature walk. We were lucky to see a whole host of animals and have another great visit to Holywell Dene. Below are the photos I took on our walk.

The cows at the end of this post were a beautiful end to our time out and one, in particular, was very happy to get some love and hugs from us for a while. Look how beautiful they are. Please consider going vegan.

Check out the post from our Dawn Chorus Day at Holywell Dene 2021 here!

Until next time...
