15 Disney Quotes to Live By

[As I'm currently dealing with a photo editing delay and technical difficulties I thought this post (that has been sitting in my drafts since this time 6 years ago) would make a nice break from all the bird-heavy content.]
---

I've put together so many different blog posts surrounding the wonderful world of Disney over the years that a) I'm practically running out of subjects to discuss and b) some of them are now incredibly outdated! I decided to look back at some of the older posts and, not re-do them per se, but re-visit them and re-vamp some. Was that enough 're-'s in one sentence?

In this post, I wanted to share some of the many inspirational Disney quotes that I think we should all be living life by. When I'm going through a hard time, something as simple as reading through some quotes helps lift my spirits a little and I hope this post can maybe do that for you too.

"A little consideration, a little thought for others, makes all the difference."
-- Eeyore (Winnie the Pooh)

"A true hero isn't measured by the size of his strength, but by the strength of his heart."
-- Zeus (Hercules)

''Sometimes the wrong path can lead us to the right one.''
-- Rutt (Brother Bear)

''Some say our destiny is tied to the land, as much a part of us as we are of it. Others say fate is woven together like a cloth so that one’s destiny intertwines with many others. It’s the one thing we search for, or fight to change. Some never find it, but there are some who are led.''
- Merida (Brave)

"The problem is not the problem. The problem is your attitude about the problem."
-- Jack Sparrow (Pirates of the Caribbean)

"If you don't think, then you shouldn't talk."
-- March Hare (Alice in Wonderland)

"Just because it's what's done, doesn't mean it's what should be done."
-- Cinderella (Cinderella)

''Charlie: Have you ever seen a million dollars''
Scott: ''No.''
Charlie: "Just because you can’t see something, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist."
-- Charlie (The Santa Clause)

''The past can hurt. But the way I see it, you can either run from it or learn from it''
-- Rafiki (The Lion King)

"The only thing predictable about life is its unpredictability."
-- Remy (Ratatouille)

''And keep your chin up. Soon there'll be happiness [] again.''
-- Robin Hood (Robin Hood)

''...We can't change who we are and the sooner you accept that the better off [] your life will be.''
-- Clyde (Wreck it Ralph)

"If you don't know where you want to go, then it doesn't matter which path you take."
-- The Cheshire Cat (Alice in Wonderland)

''Grandmother Willow: “Now then, there's something I want to show you. Look.”
 Pocahontas: “The ripples.”
John Smith: “What about them?”
Grandmother Willow: “So small at first, then look how they grow. But someone has to start them.”
-- Grandmother Willow (Pocahontas)

''Faith is a bluebird, we see from far. It's for real and as sure as the first evening star, you can't touch it, or buy it, or wrap it up tight, but it's there just the same, making things turn out right.''
-- Rufus (The Rescuers)

I could go on all day with Disney quotes. There seems to be an abundance of inspiration for all situations and right now I really need it! I hope you take something from them too.
Until next time...

Disneyland Paris 2018 // Photo Pass and Portraits

You did in fact read the title correct - 2018.
Not my 2020 Halloween Honeymoon. Obviously...
But way back in 2018 I was lucky enough to visit with not just my Mam this time, but my Dad too (who hadn't been since 1996) and we met my friend Kerri there. Sadly, the holiday didn't turn out as I expected at all. The month previous I had left a 7-year relationship, my home and moved back in with my parents. If I hadn't already had this trip booked I probably would not have gone because my general frame of mind, coupled with worrying about Baker who was being looked after by a friend, meant it didn't feel like a usual Disney visit.

We went from June 11th to 15th the and Kerri and I stayed at the Hotel New York because I 'collect' the hotels haha and wanted to stay here before it transformed fully into the new Marvel theme, while my parents chose to stay at the Cheyenne.
I had planned to take just as many photos, if not more, than I do on all my other Disney holidays. I wanted to take video footage to put together a little film like I had in 2014 and what I had from 1996. I did neither of those things, and with it being the only opportunity I'll have to experience DLP with both my parents again, I will always regret that.
I left my camera locked up in my room so the only hardcopy memories I have were taken on Photopass and my phone (I never take my phone into the parks so goodness knows why I did this time) on the odd days I decided to document anything at all. Anyway, here are some of those photos.

As much as it wasn't what I expected, we still had some wonderful times! We rode Pirates of the Caribbean too many times to count, on one night we went on it at least 3 times in a row because there was practically no queue! On the same night, we also got the front seat on Big Thunder Mountain in the dark which was a cool experience! Apparently, we also went on Buzz Lightyear's Laser Blast a few times too...
Other things featured in the photos include 'listening in' on the conversation on the old phone in New Century Notions / Flora's Boutique, part of Frontierland was decked out all Coco-esc including a huge Dante and the three Eskdales all met Mickey together.

I wish we could get a chance to do it all over again as a family of 4 but with 10 animals at home that would be impossible...even discounting the pandemic. I hope that one day Mr H and I will finally be able to visit Disneyland Paris for our Honeymoon we lost out on, though right now that seems a minimum of 5 years away.

Until next time...!

Walt Disney Company Book Collection

It's been a while! Well, yeah in general, but also since we shared any of our collections within our overall collection. The last one I personally talked about was the Harry Potter & The Wizarding World Book Collection which was apparently way back in November!! The thing is most of our collections change pretty regularly so that one is more than likely slightly out of date and I know for certain that Mr H's Tolkien collection has changed a lot since he posted it.

Today I'm finally getting around to writing about my Disney book collection. Just as I said in my Wizarding World post, I was sure there was more to my collection than it ended up looking once I took my photos, it's possible that I've missed a little chunk somewhere, but I've still spent a lot building the collection and love everything I have...obviously!

There are multiple categories of books within my Disney book collection, so that coupled with the fact they come in all shapes and sizes too means they are housed in different locations over the house.
The books in the images above live on the top shelve of our cabinet in the living room. They are main novel/story/book of the movie books. I have all of the Twisted Tales that are currently available in paperback (though I do still need to put them into chronological order), alongside the Serena Valentino fan fictions (which - spoiler alert - I hate) and a random one of Mr H's Marvel novels. My favorites in this section is definitely the Tales from the Haunted Mansion series!

Then we go upstairs to the bedroom! We have one small bookcase in there that is mainly used for books that are too big elsewhere or overflow from downstairs. The bottom shelve has a mix of things going on: a handful of what I call 'special' books from the 1970s - 1990s, art books, biographies and a couple of stray book of the movie books!
There is also the extra special Disneyland Paris A to Z book that was released for the 25th Anniversary that stays stored away.

Lastly we make the journey back down the stairs to the living room and the second shelve on the small bookcase (that also has the Tolkien collection and some of the Potter stuff on it). These are purely collecting books, as in I don't read them. The rainbow books are from the Wonderful World of Reading series published between the 1970s-1990s also. Then we have a newer collection that are technically meant as children's books, but I just really enjoy the artwork so I hoard them.

And that is it!

Periodically we'll find a WWoR book in a charity shop or a new Twisted Tales will be released but really this is a slower growing collection than the likes of Tolkien where multiple copies of the same title are bought in different covers or editions. I look forward to see what 2020 does to this collection...!

Disney Movies That Were Books First

Books are magic. Books are special and the pages house the stories that have inspired countless moving pictures from way back when up until tomorrow. That is no different for Disney movies - both animation and live action, and today I want tell you of some fabulous live action movies that started out as books. Many you'll be aware of, but others might not be as obvious!

A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle
2018 saw the 1962 award winning YA, Sci-Fi novel brought to life by Ava DuVernay - the first black woman to be nominated for the Golden Globe for best director (among other just as brilliant achievements), with Oprah Winfrey taking one of the leading roles.

Queen of Katwe by Tim Crothers
The true story of a girl from Uganda who became a chess champion, was made into a beautiful movie in 2016 starring Madina Nalwanga, David Oyelowo and Lupita Nyong'.

The BFG by Roald Dahl
This one is obvious surely? The BFG was Steven Spielberg's first film directing for Disney and came out in 2016 too.

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland works by Lewis Carroll
Although obviously not a direct book-to-film production, Alice Through the Looking Glass [2016] and Alice in Wonderland [2010] were highly inspired by Lewis Carroll's stories.

The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling
Technically an adaptation of Disney's 1967 animation, 2016's The Jungle Book is of course also derrived from Rudyard Kiplin's book from 1894.

The Finest Hours: The True Story of the U.S. Coast Guard's Most Daring Sea Rescue by Michael J. Tougias
A historical drama, based on (as you can tell) true events was the basis for the 2016, very underrated, action movie.

Cendrillon by Charles Perrault
If you don't know the origins of Cinderella, here they are.

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day by Judith Viorst
I actually had no idea that this one had beginings as a book!

Land of Oz works by Lyman Frank Baum
The classic obviously was basis for the classic starring Judy Garland that is not Disney, however, it of course also inspired one of my favorite releases from the past 10 years, 2013's Oz the Great and Powerful!

A Princess of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs
The title isn't a big clue to which movie came from this book unless you were already a fan (which I am not unfortunately) but 'A Princess of Mars is actually what made John Carter happen!

Prince Caspian by C. S. Lewis
Of course, the 2nd (and last as of yet) of Disney's adaptions of the famous Narnia series was 'Prince Caspian' in 2008. Sadly the third in that series - Voyage of the Dawn Treader - was not taken on by Disney after disputes with Walden Media.

Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson
The movie of the same name came out in 2007.

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis
As above, this was the 1st of Disney's adaptations of the Narnia franchise.

The Greatest Game Ever Played: Harry Vardon, Francis Ouimet, and the Birth of Modern Golf by Mark Frost
The Greatest Game Ever Played accounted the true story of Francis Ouimet, a golf champion, and his early life. In 2005 the book was turned into a movie and featured Shia LaBeouf as Ouimet.

Around the World in Eighty Days by Jules Verne
Is a classic adventure from 1873 and was turned into a 2004 action comedy starring Jackie Chan and Steve Coogan. It was a box office flop and I can see why...it does not do it's book counterpart justice.

Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen by Dyan Sheldon
Another that I had no idea had originally been a book.

Freaky Friday by Mary Rodgers
Did you know that the 1976 and 2003 movies were based on a children's comedy novel for 1972?! Nope, me either.

Holes by Louis Sachar
I was late to the 'Holes' train, having only seen the 2003 movie in the past 5 years, so of course, I hadn't read the 1998 novel either.

Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt
The absolutely stunning Tuck Everlasting starring Alexis Bledel from 2002, was also a completely gorgeous novel originally published in 1975. I adore this story if you couldn't tell.

Winterdance: The Fine Madness of Running the Iditarod by Gary Paulsen
Can you guess what movie this 1994 novel inspired? It was 2002's Snow Dogs!

The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot
If I need to tell you this, you have some watching and reading to do haha.

How many of these books turned movies did you know? Until researching for this post there were more than a few I hadn't a clue about where they had started. Which on the list is your favourite?

---

I used to run a lifestyle blog for around 10 years in which I wrote a lot about not only books and movies, but also a heck of a lot of Disney. When looking back at that old blog I decided there were some posts that I enjoyed so much I didn't want to leave them in a black hole, unseen on the internet since unpublishing that website. So this post and a couple of others to come are from said blog with only a tiny updating.

Book Collection Tour: Part 2

This is part 2 of our collection of books so if you haven't seen it yet, please make sure to check out our Book Collection Tour: Part 1 !
Staying in our living room where three quarters of our books are housed, we move to the second of three bookcases. This one is a 'collection' fiesta, technically, of which you have seen the majority of already...

Top shelf! (Or maybe second depending on how you see it.) This shelf is for our precious Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit and other Tolkien related books. Mr H used to be a big collector of Funko POP! Vinyls too, though downsized his collection last year only keeping the special LOTR, Harry Potter etc ones, two that you see here guarding the ring that I bought as a 13 year old fantasy fan!
To see Mr H's Tolkien collection in more detail and hear about it in his words make sure to click here and read his JRR Tolkien Collection post!

Originally, this whole bookcase was overtaken by purely Disney books. Part one showed that some of my Disney collection moved to that bookcase and others are even further away, in our bedroom. All that is left here are my Wonderful World of Reading books from around the 1950's to the 1990's and the newer Treasure Cove Story collectable books that, despite being from the past few years, include some absolutely beautiful old style artwork as well!

Lastly, on the bottom shelf is a part of another of our collections that you have already seen in more detail. Our full Harry Potter & The Wizarding World Book Collection can be seen if you click here, but as a quick explanation these books are my original childhood Potter series, the larger books in my series including art of, vaults etc and a couple other cool little magical world books - books from within the books and books about the books. How many times can I say books in one paragraph eh?

We have our 3rd instalment in this mini tour coming next month, however parts 1 and 2 are already outdated due to our book buying problem so maybe next year we'll have a re-arrange and re-tour! Maybe...
