At the end of last quarter, at the six-month mark, I was 25 books into my goal of 35! That gives me 6 months to read 10 books and with reading an average of 4 books per month I am optimistic about being able to smash my target by just shy of 50%. Without having thought ahead to the end of this post, I feel that as it's Summer and the weather is generally warm during this quarter I may have read a little more than usual as I took the opportunity to sit out in the garden with a book.
This year so far I have lived my reading life without the constraints of a TBR and essentially 'mood read' my way through the months. That being said, it's funny to see the little themes or patterns in the books I chose... Keep reading to hear about what I read during July, August and September.

What I Read Last Quarter // January - March
What I Read Last Quarter // April - June
The Book of Dragons by E. Nesbit ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Land of Roar by Jenny McLachlan ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Fork, the Witch, and the Worm: Tales from Alagaësia Volume 1: Eragon by Christopher Paolini ⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Fire Within by Chris d'Lacey ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Inheritance Almanac: An A-To-Z Guide to the World of Eragon by Michael MacAuley ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
- 1,233 pages
The month of Dragons!! Unintentionally, to begin with, July ended up being filled with Dragons. After I'd read the first couple I knew I had to keep the Dragon theme going and grabbed all the somewhat Dragon-related books from my TBR shelf. As you'll see, overall it was a high-star month with only one kind of 'flop', which I was actually a little disappointed by. I think because I love the Inheritance Cycle so much and they are such long, detailed books, I was expecting a little more from The Fork, the Witch, and the Worm.
August
Shadows of Winterspell by Amy Wilson ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Neil Patrick Harris: Choose Your Own Autobiography by Neil Patrick Harris ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Perilous Journey by Trenton Lee Stewart ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Fire Cats of London by Anna Fargher ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Scholastic Classics: Scottish Fairy Tales, Myths and Legends by Mairi Kidd ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
- 1,276 pages
In August I got to listen to two audiobooks bumping my total up to 6 books for the month, however, obviously, those extra 2 books aren't included in the page total and neither is the kindle book. They were fantastic books though! I'm not someone who really reads non-fiction or auto-biographies nor am I someone particularly interested in 'celebrities'. There are a few actors that I do think are quite cool people and NPH is one of those, so I can't believe I hadn't read this before now! I think the fact that I listened to both of these autobiographies (which were also narrated by their authors!) added exponentially to the experience and therefore justifies the 5-star rating even more so.
I also need to just point out that the other books were also wonderful. Especially The Fire Cats of London, but that is no surprise after how I enjoyed Anna Fargher's other books.
September
Waking the Witch by Rachel Burge ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Secret of Haven Point by Lisette Auton ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Sea (The Huntress Trilogy #1) by Sarah Driver ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Orla and the Serpent's Curse by C.J. Haslam ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
- 1,298 pages
September for us is when Spooky Season begins so I did have a whole set of books I'd hoped to start reading in September...then my Waking the Witch pre-order arrived and it felt fitting to dive straight into it! Though I didn't love it as much as The Twisted Tree and The Crooked Mask, it was still a solid 5-star read - Rachel Burge can do no wrong!
When perusing my shelves for a follow-on, I gravitated toward another Lighthouse...The Secret of Haven Point became my favourite of the month and is actually one of my all-time favourite books now. I don't quite know how to put into words how wonderful it is and to give the book a special space in my daily photo project, I had to pop down to the real Marsden Rock, the Leas and Souter Lighthouse the day I completed the book to take some photos! The disability representation, the language used (words I say that people look at me funny for ie. Spelk, are in a book?!) and the setting made the magic even more magical. Marsden is a very special place to me, and now so is this book. Go read it.

Another 3 months done. 15 books completed (2 of which were audiobooks and 1 kindle book) and 3,807 pages read. That's 3 more books than the previous quarter and 529 pages more in the physical copies. I guess that means my warm-weather garden reading prediction was correct. We also went on a little camping trip which is where I got through the kindle book - I still need to share the photos from that trip here so look out for those!
Anyway, it's been another great 3 months of reading and although I wish I could get through more books because I have so many amazing-looking books on my shelves with even more on my online wishlists, I am happy to be at 40/35 of my goal for the year!
I'm looking forward to the last quarter of reading in 2022!
What have you been reading?
